Arcomet reaches the 60 year milestone
2016 marks the 60th anniversary for Arcomet, manufacturer of a range of top quality self-erecting cranes and one of the tower crane rental leaders in the world. Arcomet was founded in 1956 as a supplier for the coal mines in Belgium. In 1968, the first self-erecting crane was designed and manufactured. In the eighties, Arcomet anticipated well on the changing market dynamics and in a few decades, the company built up one of the largest crane rental fleets in the world. Meanwhile, the manufacturing division keeps catering to both end-users and the rental fleet.
"Vertical integration has clear benefits: it empowers us to provide a better service to end-users while also providing a cost-efficient solution to renew our self-erector rental fleet."
“Thanks to our expertise, we have become well known as a reference in the construction industry, far beyond the borders of our own country. From our unique position combining manufacturing, sales and rental, we can offer customers the power of a market leader. With a rental fleet of about 1,000 cranes, we always have the right machine for every project”, says CEO Philippe Cohet.
But it hasn’t always been a smooth ride: Arcomet navigated through some difficult years following a global crisis in the construction industry. Philippe Cohet looks back: “We are now 2 years after a profound restructuring and we were fortunate that our shareholders were able to provide us with sufficient breathing room to turn the tide.” Today, the company is back in development mode and the future looks bright. Cohet continues: “We have many different projects on our hands: Arcomet has just set up a joint venture in the UK with Skyline Tower Crane Services Ltd. In Germany, we are investing in our rental fleet to support the current growth in the market and we are looking to develop further in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. Meanwhile, we are increasing our crane production in Paal-Beringen and we are working on a new, bigger and innovative self-erector.” Recently, Arcomet decided to retire from the Asian market, a move that is the result of a mandatory selection of areas where the company wants to operate.
"We are back on track and keen to strengthen our position as an industry reference in Northern Europe."
In summary, Arcomet is refocusing on the Northern part of Europe, where it has solid roots in the economy and where it can make a difference with its strong brand image, combined with added value through specialized application engineering, products from tier 1 suppliers and a top-notch service. In addition to this, North America is a key development area through the P&J Arcomet joint venture.
“60 years is a milestone that we have reached through the dedication of the company founders and our extraordinary team, combined with the continuous support of our customers, suppliers and financial partners. We would like to thank all of them for believing in our company and our products, regardless of the stormy weather we sometimes had to face. We are now looking towards the future and we stay committed to exceeding our customers’ expectations”, Cohet concludes.
The company celebrated on Sept 16th its anniversary with more than 300 people attending the event in Paal-Beringen (Belgium).
